Two years ago I was sitting at the eye doctor and saw an article about decorating gingerbread houses and how one lady had made it a tradition to host this party for her neighborhood. I thought "what a neat idea!" I went back to school and starting getting a feel of how many others would be interested in having one that year. Little did I know what a great tradition I would start! That year, I made the houses and supplied all the candies to decorate with. The mom's all brought snacks. We had too much candy and snacks so we planned better for the next year (we thought). Our 2nd year, I made all the houses and made snacks. The mom's all bought candy. We had so much left over candy that they all left at my house! Shame on them! Once again we would plan better for next year. I sent out a list of things we needed that included both snacks and candies for the mom's to bring. I would, as tradition, make the houses and icing. The snacks as we learned are only for the mom's - the kids don't eat any of them! The drinks that Rena brought were a hit this year (capri sun!) and we didn't have quite as much left over candy as in the past. We still have some kinks to work out, but as far as people helping out it couldn't be better! I made 30 houses this year and there were 4 left over. Yes 26 kids in my house - and then add in the # of mom's!!! I do believe we are out growing this location, but the kids LOVE this party and start asking about it as soon as Thanksgiving and for sure by the time school is letting out for the holidays (I host it the first day of the holiday). I had to smile listening to some of the conversations during this year's party - some were comparing how many gingerbread parties they had been to and/or which one they missed. Here are pics from this year's party...
