"IT'S EMPTY!" was the declaration we heard each morning when Tony came downstairs. After the third morning of attempting to explain that his stocking would be empty until Christmas morning, we decided to make a Christmas countdown for him.
Monday afternoon, Rena dropped off Dacoda to play while she went home to cook dinner. After it got dark, the boys came in to play. Tony showed Dacoda his stocking and asked if his stocking was empty. This was the point that we sat down and the boys made their own Christmas countdowns. They stamped 16 Christmas stamps on their papers, I made 17 tabs, and then they taped them to the paper. They were so proud of their work. Tony hung his right on the fireplace, next to his empty stocking. Now each morning he pulls off a tab, until he reaches the 17th tab that says "Merry Christmas" then his stocking will no longer be empty.
Come next year, we'll have to make room for one more stocking. We have actually already purchased that stocking since Target has them again this year. We will be adding a green stocking to the mix for Christmas 2009.
Notice the candy trees on the mantle...an idea thanks to HGTV's 25 Holiday Decoration Ideas. Not the easiest things to make, since the glue they suggest would not dry this weekend, but I still think they are cute.
Dec. 8 - Happy Birthday, Daddy! Hope your dinner was wonderful!
