Busy Rewarding Saturday

I was so excited to get a new easier to use sewing machine for Christmas and I finally got the chance to break it out and use it last night. We have a birthday swim party today so I made the birthday boy a cute handled beach bag (tutorial here) using my machine. I am so excited to be able to do satin stitch with it.

We started the morning by having pigs and strawberries for breakfast and then Tony and Jordonna had fun playing in her room which they are figuring out is large enough to do whatever they want (i.e. playroom).

As soon as I finished the towel this morning, I started on a birthday card. I used to hate having to go to birthday parties on Saturdays because I was always late - I would always rush right before the party to go pick up a gift and a card. Now that I make the cards and am starting to make the presents, I can sit at home in my pj's a bit longer. I don't have any cricut cartridges that have fun birthday designs so I wanted something a bit different. Since it is a swim party, I googled (yes I cheat in my creations by finding images of things and recreating them - it's the teacher in me) beach birthday cards. I found this card and immediately knew exactly how I could make it. I used an old shaving cream and food coloring trick I used in the classroom. You spray shaving cream on a plate, swirl in drops of food coloring, gently press paper on top of mixture, lift off paper and scrap shaving cream off. I use bamboo skewers. The food coloring will stay on the paper in a tie dye pattern. And now I had my swirled paper to remake the card. Here is my copy of it and FREE - I didn't have to go buy any additional materials to make this one and Tony enjoyed helping on this one!

Inspiration

By this time, my kids were getting hungry again and we started lunch. Tony helped me make Pretzel Ranch Chicken. Put pretzels in a food processor until they are TINY crumbs, sprinkle in a package of powder ranch dressing. Melt about 1/4 cup of butter and pour over crumbs. Mix well. Dip chicken tenders into egg mix (I used a cup of egg beaters for the quickness of it), then roll chicken in the pretzel mix. Bake chicken at 375 for 20 minutes or until done. Very yum!

While it was nap time for a sweet girl, Tony and I were off to a birthday party.

The story continues...came home, deep cleaned the kitchen (mopped floors and baseboards, moved EVERYTHING off the counters and scrubbed everything and cooked dinner. Right after dinner I finished up Jordonna's birthday invitations and now am baking chocolate chip cookies. Do I get to count updating my blog as part of all my excitement today??? I've been busy!

It's been a very productive day which for me is rewarding!

I got a Brother. I'm really enjoying it. I tried appliquing some things on my mom's machine but her's is too fancy and too many buttons. I am much more comfortable with mine!!
