Best Decision Yet

Last week the boys started school. 11th, 10th and 1st - When did they get this old and how long before the others reach that age :) Before school started we prepped the boys for no electronic games or TV in the evenings (Sun - Thurs) Last week went well. Dylan and Josh came home at 3, picked up Tony at 3:30, then Dylan returned to pick up Jordonna and me before 5. When I get home at 5, they have done their chores (which during the week is just keep the living room clean and kitchen cleaned, INCLUDING dishes). They had a hard time understanding that when I say clean the kitchen that includes the dishes and if I say do the dishes, they have a hard time understanding that includes counters and surrounding areas - it's getting better. I get home and if Tony hasn't finished we continue with that while I cook dinner. We get baths and lights out at 8:30 for little ones and 9:00 for others. It's a wonderful routine that I was so glad to see after a long summer.

Today was validation that our choice for no electronics was not only best for school work and Josh in general...Today I watched Dylan and Josh play football together in the yard. I watched Jordonna chase her brothers down the driveway while Dylan worked on his skateboard. We of course always have dinner together, but afterwards we enjoyed a cake that baked while the kids played in the yard. Then Dylan brought down his guitar and played a few songs he had been practicing.... I watched with a smile was Tony and Jordonna danced to his music. While Tony was reading his passages Jordonna copied every word and sounded out words with him.

So after watching my children play together, work together and study a bit harder, it hands down the best decision we have made since....not sure? So perhaps it is the best decision...period.
