Scout Family Camping Trip

The weekend started by having Crazy Hair Day for Red Ribbon Week at school - which meant that we were camping with a green head kid all weekend.  And I feel the need to include this picture because from the time we arrived at camp to the time that we left, I only saw Tony a handful of times.  I finally caught him at the same time I had my camera on me on the last morning of our trip.

I should also mention that after driving for 4 hrs on a drive that should have taken only 1hr and 45 minutes, we had many moments when I really just wanted to turn the truck around and go home, especially when it got dark and started to rain.  And should I also mention that it was in the 40's? The only cold weekend we have had so far!  Won't this be fun.  I actually text my mom at one point and said, "I QUIT! I'm not going anywhere with any of these people!"  I'm glad I didn't give into my frustrations because here is how the weekend turned out...

* WARNING - lots of pictures of Jordonna because Tony was off having the time of his life and didn't need his momma hanging out with him.

The girl scout troop that was camping also, invited all the Boy Scout sisters to come down and do crafts.  One of the activities included decorated cupcakes.

Another trick learned from Girl Scouts - put a bar of soap in knee high panty hose and tie to the water spout at your site - instant handwashing station.  Jordonna had very clean hands all weekend..she loved this!
After the 124,434,343 time around the campgrounds on the bike, I was sitting enjoying, relaxing our view from our site.  I loved our spot and wanted a picture and crazy girl jumped in my picture as soon as she saw my camera.  Thanks, girl!!
This was what I had intended to take... Isn't it a perfect location! And let me just say that Hunstville State Park is beautiful, so clean, and lots for the entire family to do! We will be going back SOON!
The weather was in the 40's all weekend and I gladly let Jordonna sleep with us.  She had fleece pajamas - I wanted some of the warmth from her.

More bike rides - Jordonna took a nap and went to bed by 10 pm.  I think I need a circle she can ride and ride to wear her out.  She never goes to bed that early.
The park has many hiking trails.  The scouts went on a hike that morning and I took Jordonna to town so we could pick up beanies and gloves (yes we were freezing!) I packed lots of blankets and long sleeves along with hoodies, but we needed MUCH more than that.)

When we got back, Jordonna wanted to go hiking too.  I figured it would be a quick few steps up the trail and we would turn around.  This girl walked about a mile on her own! On the way back we stopped to rest on a bench.  She laid her head in my lap and I immediately made her get up because I knew we still had a ways to make it back and I could NOT carry her.  We would have to wait right there and finish the nap.

At one point the trail split into 3 trails.  She put her hand to her hear and listened to hear which way we should go.  You really would have to be there, but she got it from Jake and the Neverland Pirates- they do that in the ipad app.  I thought it was really cute how she put the 2 together.

Jordonna has always liked to collect leaves and bring leaves to people, rather than flowers.  In fact when we arrived at camp, she found a stick full of leaves and says, "Mom, look a bouquet for my friend!"  The park had the best leaves and Jordonna started her own collection.  Apparently, if the leaf made it into the collection it had to be a certain size - like the size of her head!  These 4 leaves made the cut.
(I placed a penny next to them so you can imagine how big the leaf really is!)

Saturday night, the boys had a fire retirement ceremony where each scout placed a piece of an old flag into a fire dedicated to just the flag.  Next all the families gathered for Crackerbarrel time, which included many camp fire desserts, stories, songs, and skits.  Jordonna and I went to bed at this time and the guys stayed up for Ghost of Scouts past.

And our final morning camping, look who I finally ran into at the campfire.  These boys look tired!  They earned a badge of courage, they hiked, they started a collection, they rode bikes, they fished, they never stopped!
Can't wait until next year...hopefully it's not the next time we go camping.  The kids love camping and so do I.  I just hope we make it back while the weather is cool - best time to camp!
