I already dropped the ball on keeping up with my new blog, but that's okay because I have a very good excuse! I first was away spending the 4th of July with my family. We had a wonderful day even though it tried to rain just once (at least according to Granddaddy. He swears it wasn't me splashing him with water.) We didn't feel any rain, but we were in the water. So you figured out that part of our day was spent swimming, while the big boys went skiing, tubing, and wake boarding. Dylan got a new wake board around Memorial Day. Richard and him tried and tried over and over again to get up on that thing with no success. Fortunately for us the river was slow that weekend, because we didn't ski that day, we just did circles in the water. Anyways, back to the 4th. Dylan made it up, just like he had been doing it for years! He was so proud of himself, that as soon as he was up he was showing off by holding on with only one hand. I made a comment in front of Tony and basically said "Don't go showing off when you just got up. Hold on!" Tony corrected me and said, "That's what the movie said to do." Dylan (and Tony) had watched an instructional video and apparently the PROS in the video only go with one hand. Anyways he looked great on the wake board and he did an awesome job. He'll be ready for some more as soon as they return. As proud as I am of Dylan, Tony made us proud too. As my mother kept saying all day long "Her last grandson got in the river!" We were swimming, I was on the pier and I looked over and all of the sudden, Tony decided to climb into the water. He didn't use the steps, just the bulkhead and climbed in. Thankfully the water is only about his knee deep at the bulkhead. He hung out with everyone in the water for a bit and then it was time to eat. My mother had put a brisket on to smoke that morning, made potato salad from the potatoes in her garden, and made the best pot of beans in a long time. Mrs. Mary and her family joined us for the day. She brought chips for us to snack on and thanks to them we were able to hold out until we ate. (By the way, don't try the new Doritos Quest...I hate to even imagine what that flavor is. GROSS by all means!!!) I had the easy part this 4th of July and I got to make the desserts. I always like the blueberry and strawberry 4th of July desserts and this year we found a new one that was REALLY good. Link and picture below. Try it out!

Oh yeah, we had an absolutely wonderful watermelon. We all had to be rolled back to the river after dinner. Richard didn't even make it back to the river after dinner, he feel asleep on the couch!
Mrs. Mary got Tony (or Stinky as she calls him, but that's another story, another day) back into the water. She put in the tube for the boat and Tony sat in it. After a bit of sitting, Tony wanted to jump from the pier into the tube (with life jacket) so we let him. Not long after the boat came back with all the big boys and somehow, Mrs. Mary convinced Stinky to ride in the tube behind the BOAT!!!!! Now remember he is only 4! And he is going out in a tube being pulled by a boat in the VERY deep river. Mr. Eddie did a wonderful job of going very slow and not stressing me out! Thank you.
Dark came, we cleaned up our river toys, pulled the boat out, got baths, and sat at the end of my parents driveway for a wonderful fireworks display across the street. As soon as that was done, the neighbors across the river shot fireworks out of their cannon. Pretty display, but I hate the noise of the cannon going off in the backyard! No complaints though because the day with my family was wonderful and my boys had some big triumphs! Happy Belated Independence Day!
