Where it at? Where it at?
Ok, It was just Jelly time, but there were baseball bats involved and it was at my mom's house. My mom and dad picked an entire ice chest full of fresh peaches off of 5 trees on the farm this past weekend. The kids and I spent the weekend out there sorting through peaches, making jam and BBQ sauce.
Over 24 jars of peach jam and raspberry peach lavender jam. I got to make jam - not just watch. Thanks, Mom for letting me join in on the fun. I really enjoyed it!
While we made jam and jelly, PawPaw entertained the little ones outside, as much as he could. Jordonna was being a handful (but after today I think it was because she wasn't feel very good. She woke up throwing up.) Tony; however, kept PawPaw busy - they tossed the ball and did a little batting practice. See told you there were baseball bats involved!
Since you can't disturb the jars for 24 hours, I had to settle for licking the bowl - can't wait for the real thing. It was delish!!!!! Mom has a friend who likes to made YumYum's with the jam and jelly my mom shares with her. She uses regular Saltine crackers, and small slice of sharp cheddar and a dab of jelly/jam. Put it all together on a cracker and enjoy. I don't have Saltines. Don't have cheddar. And I have to wait 24 hrs for the new jam. Okay, that was just a tease!
On to the BBQ Sauce (or gravy?)
25 years ago my mom married Kent and I was introduced to an amazing BBQ sauce. As a kid, I didn't care too much for it. Then while my parents were still building their house, Kent wanted it so we set up on the front porch and made some. I don't remember eating it then, though. But for the past few months, almost a year now, I keep getting these tastes and smell reminders of this BBQ sauce and I WANT IT! My parents grew onions in their garden this year and had an abundance of onions. As soon as my mom said she wasn't sure what she was going to do with all the onions, I suggested the BBQ sauce. She agreed and we made plans to do it Memorial Day weekend.
18 lbs of onions later, 10 cans of tomatoes, 4 gallons ketchup, a trip home to take an uncooperative child to, the house, and a GIANT pot which I didn't get pictures of because I had to leave to take above said child home we had 23 ziploc baggies with 3 cups each of Austin County Concordia BBQ sauce. We had plans to just eat hotdogs for dinner since we knew we would be exhausted after the day, but I wanted the BBQ sauce too bad so I stopped and picked up chicken legs and thighs. The sauce was exactly what I had been wanting for a long time now. Thanks, Mom for making it - absolutely WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!! Did I mention we did not make the recipe for 100's of people - we used the small one that was for about 25 people, but doubled it.
