Fuddruckers?

Last October, Tony was evaluated by the school district for his speech. He qualified and began a speech program they call PLAY III. Some of his words were made up words, some he just would leave off the middle sound and only use the first and last sounds of the words...some only the last sound. Some of his words that were most memorable were Hank (EVERY dog!), granted he associated this with the dog we had previously but we could not break him of calling dogs Hank. Ice cream was moan. Oatmeal was meal. He has progressed very well while in therapy and it is getting easier day by day to understand him. Gone are the days of his made up words. One word that he can say particularly well (at least for the first few tries) is Fuddruckers. It is apparently one of his favorite places right now (I am sure it is because of the games). The other day, he asked after church, "Let's go to Fuddruckers!" When you have a child who has a speech impediment, Fuddruckers can be a scary word coming out of his mouth. However, it was clear as day...said it PERFECTLY! Until we told him no, we were not going to Fuddruckers. Then he became upset, the perfection was gone, and the speech problems were back. For the sake of keeping my blog clean, I will leave what came out of his mouth to your imagination. We are still not sure if he was cussing us for not taking him or if he was still demanding to go to Fuddruckers and the word just didn't come out right.

I had a student last year who would do say that inappropriate version of Fuddruckers due to a speech impediment. He would get so excited and say it over and over again. Oh my, it was too funny!

Oh if only Tony reversed a few letters like Josh would do a few years ago! Tony goes back to using the first sound and last sound...leaves off the uddr!!!
