Spring Break Colorado - Day 4

Before we get started today - some of our favorite pictures from today!

Up and at em’ – we have Sausage Bread and fresh fruit ready to eat. Who’s going where today?

Nick – skiing with the big kids
Dane – snowboarding with a few pointers from Dylan and Josh since he missed his school yesterday
Dylan & Josh – snowboarding
Jordonna & Nonnie – staying at the cabin
Me, Kayann, and Abi – taking it easy, but skiing
PawPaw and Sonja- Sonja is going to start Kent out slow and give him some pointers to help him out
Tony – undecided
Josh is ready!

The day is over and here is how it all went down:

Sonja spent her day trying to calm Dane and get him to get the hang of snowboarding enough to enjoy it. Nick had a good day skiing. Dylan and Josh did as well, with the exception of Dylan hurting his knee. PawPaw and I ended up with the kids – all 3 little ones, yes including Tony. We arrive at Wolf Creek and get organized with our skies and snowboards and purchase lift tickets and everyone scatters in many different ways. PawPaw and I take Tony, Abi, and Kayann up to a small hill to practice stopping before we get them on the lifts. They refuse to put the skies on and try it out. PawPaw (Kent) and I are quickly loosing our patience because we had already purchased our own lift tickets and now someone was going to sit out because we had 3 kids refusing to get up. Of course, I give them 2 choices (Love & Logic!!!) – either get up and try skiing or sign up for Wolf Pups. They do not want Wolf Pups! I threw out the other choice because there was no way we were taking them up to the top with the skills they had. I talked to Wolf Pup Camp and they agreed to allow the kids to go up to the Magic Carpet and practice their stopping a bit more – no charge. YEA! Once we get up there, we have a ski instructor that stayed with us and worked with the kids – Mitzy! SHE WAS AMAZING! I wanted her to teach me; heck I just wanted to be a Wolf Pup and have the Magic Carpet take me to the top of the hill and then have someone in front of me to catch me. I was too old. She got the kids doing great and took us up on the lift to the top! YIKES – I was freaking out a bit since you know the whole ski school thing yesterday. Tony starts off the line and is doing really good – even Mitzy said he was doing the best. Abi is catching on a bit more, but not moving very far between each stop. Kayann keeps falling, and then Tony starts having a melt down and wants his momma close by him. I ski down just a bit to be next to him and what does he do – he grabs my pole and pulls me over. I flip around trying to stay up and land flat on my belly – OUCH! I get up, Tony is worried he hurt me and refuses to go on. He even takes off his skies. We told him he could walk down the mountain the rest of the way, but would have to carry his own skies – another melt down. Thankfully Ray (yesterday’s ski school instructor) shows up and agrees to carry Tony’s skies and help me down the mountain since I missed this whole part yesterday. (Ray redeemed himself!) It was amazing when I would stop and look back and see where I had come from and I had so much fun going down. Just wish I could have gone again – yes that was the only time I got to go. That’s the territory that comes from being Mom. When I got down to the bottom, the girls were still working with Mitzy, but Tony wanted his boots off. I take him down and look at my watch that says 5:00; just forgot that I hadn’t changed with the time here so it was really 4:00. Anyways, since I thought it was 5:00 and almost time to meet up with everyone, I changed out of my ski boots too. I was totally bummed when I got back to the lift to video everyone to realize I still had an hour that I could have skied. When I came back to the lift, Abi is skiing alone and leaving PawPaw behind. She got it and went with it. She would come off the slope and ski straight into the line to get back on the lift. She had a blast. PawPaw was right behind her the entire time.

As much as I would have loved to have skied some more, I have some great video and pictures of Abi, PawPaw and Dylan skiing and snowboarding.

Time to head back to the cabin – where the big boys take off to the summit to take pictures at a cross there and the others sat down to enjoy chicken tetrazzini and salad. So good on an empty stomach – didn’t realize we never stopped for lunch today!

On tomorrow’s schedule – not sure – either more skiing with only adults and Abi, or sightseeing in the little towns around here and some shopping. Only 2 more days!
