The view we woke up to each morning!Rise and Shine and give God the glory, glory; Children of the Lord! God needs the glory for the magnificent view we woke up to this morning. Frost on the ground, snowman still standing in the yard, snow capped mountains everywhere you look – only a view that God could create. Amazing scenery!!! After a breakfast of pigs and eggs, everyone suited up in ski pants, big coats, beanies, and gloves. Time to load up and head to the mountain! Having to suit up 4 kids and myself, we really thought that we would stick out like a sore thumb dressed like a bunch of rednecks on a tight budget (which would make sense since we already did the redneck sleds) but we actually looked decent compared to some. Some of those skiers just throw on whatever and head to the slopes. And it appeared that some people were having a competition for the Ugliest Ski Hat Ever.

This whole morning was a complete new experience for me – seeing that many people sitting around everywhere – not even sure you’d see that many people in one area at a Six Flags theme park or even anytime at Disney. Today was actually Wolf Creeks second highest attendance since opening in 1936 – over 5,000. (6,000+ is the highest) Trying to get skis and boots for the 12 of us was crazy enough but then to mix it in with that many people – WOW! Kent and I headed off to Beginner Ski School, Nick and Sonja went to a refresher class, Abi and Tony were so excited about Wolf Pups School that my mom finally just let them go off on their own and she finished signing them up for the class, Kayann, Nonnie, and Jordonna hung out and played in the snow, and Josh, Dylan and Dane went snowboarding.

Sounds like a great day, right? While Kent did great in Ski School and only fell once and I caught on fairly quickly, my boot was killing me. I couldn’t feel my toes, the pain was radiating up my leg and the instructor was very impatient. I finally stepped out of line and undid my boot, but about the time I bent over to unbuckle it, being at 11,000ft hit me and I could NOT breathe. I thought for sure I was going to be sick, sick, sick!! Remember my impatient instructor – he didn’t let me go get new boots and took off on the lift with the others and I was there with a wasted $50 and didn’t get to do anything but ski down about 10 ft ONCE. Kent had a great time, but said that when he would get going too fast, that he would just fall to stop since stopping wasn’t his strongest skill. Josh had a great time snowboarding, but did feel the effects of the altitude; Dylan caught on immediately, but Dane fell and hurt his ankle. About 2 hours later his mom finally found him at First Aid – but no contact was made to let her know of her son’s injury. Everyone had a great time, even with a few illnesses and bumps and bruises. We loaded up and headed back to town. Remember all those meals that my mom made ahead of time? We forgot the chili for tonight’s supper back in Texas. We had planned to just stop and pick up meat, but there was a Chili Supper in South Fork so on the way home, we stopped and enjoyed a Chili Supper – wonderful chili, hot dogs, nachos, and sherbet. Everyone ate well and left with full tummies.
Back at the cabin, everyone got comfortable and surprisingly this wood burning stove in the center of the cabin heats the entire cabin so well, that we were all so hot wishing we had brought shorts and short-sleeved shirts. We opened a few doors to balance the heat and settled in to play Minute to Win It. I prepared 32 games and brought it with us. The kids had a great time, but I almost wonder if the adults didn’t have a better time watching and participating. It was a night full of great laughs. We have most of it on video so hopefully we can get some of that posted soon. SO FUNNY!Everyone off to bed – have another busy day of skiing tomorrow. I’m taking the 3 little ones with me while Nonnie stays at the cabin with Jordonna, and everyone else hits the bigger slopes.
