I enjoyed my time with the kids. Not being in the classroom now, but working more closely with the teachers, I don't get the chance to spend as much time with the students. I love seeing their curiosity when it comes to anything science related. At my station for Career Day, I had the Hissing Cockroaches, a car that worked on gears and all the gears were visible, a working circuit, a model of a brain, a tree cookie, a large rock, prism classes, and a balancing bird. This was the first time for Career Day, but the engineer and I are ready for next year - he is bringing pieces of bubble wrap for the kids and I will have paper copies and paper clips for them to make their own balancing bird. All those other "businesses" showed us up with "vendor swag." Best part of the day - the students asked Mrs. Lopez to hold a roach. She knew she couldn't tell them no - I'll have to get those pictures from her principal. There are plenty - we wanted PROOF!

Famous for a Day
This week is Red Ribbon Week and some of our area schools are incorporating their Character program with Red Ribbon. Thursday at one school was "Begin with an End in Mind" - seeking out goals for their lives. Students had the opportunity to visit a Career Fair. I was asked to come as a "scientist." HA! I wasn't really sure what a "scientist" would say, but I partnered up with an engineer and we encouraged LOTS of science and math. I asked them about their science in the classroom and encouraged them to already believe they are a scientist. We had 2 grade levels come through (the others had other activities for Career Day). When 4th grade came through, they all started asking for our autographs. One little boy walked up and asked, "You're famous?" "Sure, don't you know me?" "Should I?" "I think I might - here sign my book." HAHA!! He wanted to make sure he didn't miss out on anything.
